One little chimp. One yellow ball. One extraordinary adventure.
In Pickleball Pip and the Great Zoo Rescue, author Adriana Falco introduces young readers to an unlikely hero whose journey from loneliness to belonging demonstrates how friendship, kindness and a shared activity can transform lives.
Released October 13, 2026, the 40-page children’s picture book combines the excitement of pickleball with a story about finding your place in an unfamiliar world. Written for children ages 4 to 8, it introduces themes that resonate well beyond the playground or pickleball court.
A Little Chimp Looking for Home
Pip’s adventure begins when he is rescued from the African jungle and brought to Sunny Skies Zoo. Although he is now in a safe environment, his surroundings are unfamiliar, and adjusting to his new life proves difficult.
Surrounded by other chimpanzees, Pip struggles with feelings of loneliness and uncertainty. He wants to belong, but finding his place is not as simple as arriving somewhere new.
It is an emotional starting point that gives the story its heart. Young readers may recognize Pip’s feelings from their own experiences, whether starting a new school, moving to a different neighborhood or trying to make friends.
Rather than presenting belonging as something that happens automatically, Falco builds her story around the idea that connections develop through shared experiences, patience and kindness.
When Pickleball Changes Everything
The turning point arrives when pickleball is introduced at Sunny Skies Zoo.
What begins as a new activity becomes something much more meaningful. Through a paddle, a ball and the opportunity to play, Pip discovers a way to connect with those around him.
Pickleball is an inspired choice for a children’s story because its appeal extends beyond competition. The sport encourages interaction, cooperation and participation, making it a natural vehicle for exploring friendship and community.
For young readers unfamiliar with pickleball, the story offers an introduction to a sport enjoyed by people of different ages and abilities. For children who already play, Pip provides a character whose enthusiasm reflects their own excitement about the game.
The book’s central message is particularly appealing: sometimes finding a connection with others begins with something as simple as playing together.
More Than a Story About Sports
Although pickleball drives the adventure, the book’s deeper themes give it broader appeal.
Pip’s journey explores what it means to feel different, navigate unfamiliar surroundings and discover a sense of belonging. His experience creates opportunities for parents, grandparents and educators to discuss empathy, inclusion and the importance of welcoming others.
The zoo setting also gives the story a distinctive identity. By placing a young chimpanzee at the center of the adventure, Falco makes the emotional themes approachable for children while creating an imaginative setting for pickleball.
The title promises a great zoo rescue, but the story’s most meaningful transformation begins with Pip himself. His discovery of friendship and confidence becomes part of a larger adventure that brings renewed hope to Sunny Skies Zoo.
It is this combination of personal growth and community spirit that makes the premise memorable.

A New Character for Young Pickleball Fans
Pip arrives at a time when pickleball continues to attract families and younger players around the world.
While the sport has become increasingly visible in professional competition, recreational clubs and community programs, children’s literature offers another opportunity to introduce its appeal to a new generation.
Falco brings a distinctive background to the project. A former NCAA Division I lacrosse player and PPR-certified pickleball instructor, she has played pickleball since 2012 and enjoys teaching the sport to children.
She is also the founder and editor-in-chief of The Pickleball Weekly, a digital magazine with readership in more than 120 countries. Her background in publishing, storytelling and athletics provides a foundation for a children’s series built around an accessible and community-oriented sport.
Her connection to zoos adds another dimension. During her graduate studies at Drexel University, Falco completed a business development internship at the Philadelphia Zoo, an experience that connects her professional background to the setting of Pip’s adventure.
Pickleball Pip and the Great Zoo Rescue is her debut children’s picture book and the first installment in a planned series.
From the Page to the Community
The book was announced during the October 2026 World Pickleball Convention & Conference and reached No. 1 New Release status in Amazon’s Children’s Racket Sports Books category, according to the book’s promotional materials.
Pip’s adventures are also extending beyond the pages through the “Pip Out & About” and “Pip’s Fan Club” social media series. These activities introduce the character to families and pickleball enthusiasts through photographs, visits and reader participation.
A second installment, Pickleball Pip and the Great Zoo Escape, is already planned, giving readers another opportunity to follow the young chimpanzee’s adventures.
In or Out?
Pickleball Pip and the Great Zoo Rescue offers a charming premise with a meaningful message. By bringing together an endearing animal character, an imaginative zoo setting and the welcoming spirit of pickleball, the book creates an accessible introduction to friendship, belonging and community.
Its themes make it particularly appealing for families, young athletes, elementary school classrooms and anyone looking to introduce children to pickleball through storytelling.
The story also offers a reminder that sports can provide much more than physical activity. They can open doors to friendships, build confidence and help individuals discover where they belong.
For children discovering pickleball and families who already love the game, Pip’s first adventure offers a delightful invitation to pick up a paddle, make a friend and see what happens next. ●
