Orlando’s SoDo District welcomes a luxury pickleball and social club

PICKLEBALL’S RAPID RISE has produced courts in parks, recreation centers, and converted warehouses across the country. In Florida, however, a new wave of clubs is taking the sport in a different direction. These venues combine competitive play with dining, design, and social programming more commonly associated with private country clubs.

One of the newest examples is Hamlin House Paddle & Social Club, a private racquet and social club located in Orlando’s South of Downtown (SoDo) district. Situated at 231 W. Grant Street, the 28,000-square-foot facility blends pickleball, hospitality, and community into a single destination designed for both play and connection.

The club is co-owned by Ryan and Michelle DeVos, who are also connected to Major League Pickleball through the Orlando Squeeze franchise. Their vision for Hamlin House was not to replicate the traditional country club model but to create a space that feels more like a home base for the community.

“We talk a lot about the fact that we’ve all been to a country club,” General Manager Ashley Turner told local media during an early tour of the facility. “We really wanted to create a space that felt like home.”

A Club Built Around Pickleball

At its core, Hamlin House is a racquet-focused club designed to serve both recreational and competitive players.

The facility features seven professional-grade pickleball courts. Three are located indoors, while four are outdoors. Two of the outdoor courts are shaded, allowing for play even during Florida’s intense midday sun. The courts are designed with spectator areas and event flexibility, including one larger indoor court space capable of accommodating gatherings and organized matches.

Programming at the club includes private instruction, clinics, leagues, and organized play led by dedicated pickleball professionals. Members can reserve courts for casual matches or participate in structured programming designed to develop skills and build community among players.

A Hospitality-Driven Experience

What sets Hamlin House apart from a typical sports facility is its emphasis on hospitality and social connection.

The club includes a full-service restaurant and an all-day café, with menus developed in partnership with Michelin-starred Chef John Fraser and his JF Restaurants team. Lunch and dinner service are offered in the restaurant, while the café provides coffee, smoothies, and lighter options throughout the day.

Members can also enjoy courtside service during play, as well as dining and drinks on an outdoor patio.

The beverage program was developed with input from Amy Racine, a James Beard Award semifinalist and recipient of Beverage Director of the Year honors from both Wine Enthusiast and Esquire.

Designed for Community

The interior design reflects what the club describes as a retro-Florida aesthetic, blending sport and leisure with a welcoming residential feel.

Lounge areas throughout the building are designed to resemble living rooms rather than formal club spaces. Members can relax between matches, work remotely, or gather with friends and family.

Additional spaces include a family room, multiple indoor and outdoor lounges, and locker rooms designed to support a full-day club experience.

The club’s name itself draws from Florida history. Hamlin House references the Hamlin orange, a cold-hardy citrus variety that became one of Florida’s most widely grown oranges after surviving the devastating freezes of the late nineteenth century.

Membership and Access

Hamlin House operates as a private membership club, with two primary membership paths.

The Racquet Membership provides full access to courts, leagues, clinics, and instruction. The Social Membership focuses on dining, cultural events, and lifestyle programming for members who want to enjoy the club atmosphere without prioritizing court play.

Memberships are available for individuals, couples, families, and corporate groups.

Pricing begins at $200 per month, with Social Memberships also including a $2,500 one-time initiation fee. Racquet members receive priority court booking privileges, while Social members have limited access to court reservations.

A New Direction for Pickleball Clubs

Hamlin House reflects a growing trend in pickleball: the development of paddle-focused social clubs that blend sport, hospitality, and lifestyle programming into a single experience.

Instead of simply providing courts, these clubs aim to create destinations where members can spend an entire day playing, dining, socializing, and attending events.

For Orlando’s SoDo district, the arrival of Hamlin House adds another layer to the neighborhood’s expanding retail and dining scene while introducing a new type of pickleball venue.

For the sport itself, it represents a glimpse into pickleball’s evolving future, one where the game increasingly shares space with hospitality, design, and community-driven experiences.
