Spring 2027 Editorial Intern (Remote)

About the Role

The Pickleball Weekly is seeking a highly motivated Editorial Intern to join our remote editorial team for academic credit through an accredited college or university.

This internship provides hands-on experience in sports journalism, digital publishing, and magazine production. Interns will work alongside experienced editors while developing professional reporting, interviewing, research, and writing skills in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Internship Responsibilities:

  • Assist with additional editorial projects as assigned
  • Scout and develop story ideas from across the pickleball industry
  • Research, report, and write news stories and feature articles
  • Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, executives, and industry leaders
  • Perform fact-checking and source verification
  • Monitor tournaments, press releases, podcasts, and social media for news opportunities
  • Assist with editorial planning and content calendars
  • Support coverage of professional tournaments and industry events (virtual and occasional in-person opportunities may be available)
  • Collaborate closely with editors to revise and polish stories before publication

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Ability to receive academic credit for the internship
  • Major in Journalism, Communications, Sports Media, or a closely related field
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and storytelling skills
  • Strong research and interviewing abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced news environment
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • A passion for sports journalism
  • Knowledge of pickleball is preferred but not required
  • Participation in collegiate or competitive sports is strongly preferred
  • Experience with a college newspaper, magazine, website, or other student publication is a plus

Internship Details:

  • Location: Remote (U.S.)
  • Schedule: Approximately 15–20 hours per week (flexible around class schedules)
  • Compensation: Unpaid; college credit through an accredited university
  • Duration: Semester-based with the possibility of extension
